Benny Sings

Every other week, BIRD takes a peek into the record bags of a musical soulmate. This time, we spoke with Amsterdam-based beat guru and songwriter Benny Sings about his favourite jams. On Tuesday, 19th October, Benny and his band will perform at a sold-out BIRD.

Which song has been stuck in your head lately?

The Anderson .Paak remix of ‘When Winter Comes’ by Paul McCartney.

Which artist inspired you to become an artist yourself?

Bon Jovi. My cousins and I always used to imitate him, on our beds.

What was the first record you ever bought?

Tarzan Boy by Baltimora.

Which song do you wish you had written?

‘Lighten Up’ by the Beastie Boys.

Which song always reminds you of summer?

‘Light Up’ by Common.

Have you ever got goosebumps from a performance? If so, where and from which song?

Sadly, no! I'm not an avid live music-goer myself; I get too distracted by the noise around me. I'm a real 'living room hi-fi consumer'.

What is your favourite album?

Pipes of Peace by Paul McCartney.

Which deceased artist would you have loved to see perform live?

Chet Baker!

What's your ultimate heart-break song?

‘Teardrops’ by Womack & Womack.

And last but not least: what song is your current guilty pleasure?

‘Reis Mee’ by Kinderen voor Kinderen. Big props to Tjeerd Oosterhuis. This song is a HIT!
